Officiant’s Kit

Officiants. This kit contains all the documents needed by an officiant to prepare the solemnization of a marriage or civil union.

The document Useful information for officiants at marriages or civil unions is a guide to the steps in the process: it should be read first.

The kit also contains the forms Notice of Civil Marriage and Notice of Civil Union. The appropriate form should be completed and posted in the place where the marriage or civil union in to take place, and at the courthouse nearest to that place, at least 20 days before the event.

Also included are the Rules respecting the solemnization of civil marriages and civil unions and the texts that must be read out at a civil marriage (Appendix III and Appendix V) or at a civil union ceremony (Appendices IV and VI).

Last, the kit contains the forms Information on Intended Spouses (marriage or civil union). The forms are not compulsory, but are intended to facilitate the work of officiants collecting required information on prospective spouses, for example if one of the spouses is not known to the officiant.
