Pursuant to section 244 of the Act instituting civil unions and establishing new rules of filiation, the report describes the retrospective study of the new definition of the French equivalent of spouse, "conjoint". The first chapter examines the consistency of the definition and its effect on existing legislation; the second chapter details how it is interpreted by the various adjudicative and legislative authorities.
