Message from Minister of Justice

Minister of Justice Jean-Marc Fournier.Québec Flag Day

On Saturday, January 21, 2012, Québec Flag Day, I invite you to join with me in celebrating the 64th anniversary of the adoption of the fleur-de-lis flag and commemorating an important moment in our history.

On January 21, 1948, a little before 3 p.m., the fleur-de-lis flag flew for the first time above the tower of the Parliament Building in Québec City. That very morning, the government made it “Québec’s official flag”.

The national flag, a source of pride for all Quebecers, remains a symbol that rallies all segments of Québec society.

As a reminder of our collective memories, the flag has become closely linked with our identity. Québec Flag Day provides an opportunity to gather around an emblem that powerfully embodies our values, our shared aspirations and our determination to work together to build the Québec of tomorrow.

Jean-Marc Fournier
Minister of Justice and Minister responsible for the administration of the Act respecting the flag and emblems of Québec
