As a public body, the Ministère de la Justice is subject to the Act respecting access to documents held by public bodies and the Protection of personal information  .
The department is also subject to the Regulation respecting the distribution of information and the protection of personal information , which recognizes the right of citizens to have access to personal information concerning them and to request the correction of any information that is inaccurate, incomplete or equivocal, or whose collection, release or keeping is not authorized by law. The Regulation applies to all documents held by the Ministère for the performance of its duties, whether the documents are recorded in writing or print, on sound tape or film, in computerized form, or otherwise.
