Born in Châteauguay on October 7, 1959
Obtained a Licenciate in Laws in 1981 and a Master’s degree in public law in 1991, both from the Université de Montréal. Member of the Québec Bar Association since 1982.
Traineeship at the Saint-Henri Legal Aid Office in 1982. Partner counsel with Lord, Fournier, Tourangeau from 1982 to 1988 and consulting counsel from 1989 to 1991. Political advisor for the Liberal Party on the Commission sur l'avenir politique et constitutionnel du Québec in 1990 and 1991, and at the office of the Minister for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs in 1991 and 1992. Deputy Office Manager for the Minister of Justice and Minister for Canadian Intergovernmental Affairs in 1992 and 1993, and Office Manager for the Minister of Labour in 1994.
Host and chair of the board of directors of the Châteauguay community radio station (CHAI-MF) from 1984 to 1987. Chair of the Jeux du Québec organizing committee for the regional winter finals in 1985 and 1986, president and secretary of the Châteauguay Chamber of Commerce in 1986 and 1987. Member of the board of directors of the Groupe SAJE in Châteauguay from 1987 to 1991.
Defeated candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada in the Châteauguay riding in the 1988 federal elections. Elected as MNA for the Liberal Party of Québec in Châteauguay in 1994. Re-elected in 1998, 2003 and 2007. Deputy House Leader for the Official Opposition from March 27, 1997 to October 28, 1998. Chief Whip for the Official Opposition from December 9, 1998 to March 12, 2003. Minister of Municipal Affairs, Sport and Recreation in the Charest cabinet from April 29, 2003 to February 18, 2005. Minister of Education, Sport and Recreation from February 18, 2005 to April 18, 2007. Minister of Revenue from April 18, 2007 to December 18, 2008. Government House Leader from April 18, 2007 to November 5, 2008.
Did not stand for election in 2008.
