Ascendant

An ascendant is any relative (grandparent, great-grandparent, etc.) from whom a person descends.

The law that governs successions makes a distinction between direct ascendants, called privileged ascendants (father and mothers), and more distant ascendants such as grandparents or great-grandparents.
