An accommodation sale is a transaction by which the buyer of a automobile sells the vehicle he or she wishes to replace to a buyer of his or her own choosing through the agency of the car dealership. In doing so, the buyer does not have to go to an office of the Société de l'assurance automobile du Québec to have the ownership transferred. The car dealership is authorized to carry out these transactions. Furthermore, the accommodation sale reduces the amount of sales tax the buyer must pay on the purchase of an automobile. The reduction equals the amount of tax payable on the value of the vehicle sold.
