Michael Sheehan

« The faculties of the suicidal person are weakened by suffering; he needs all our compassion and our immediate help. »

Judge Michael Sheehan earned the 2001 Prix de la justice for his dedication to suicide prevention. In order to overcome the pain following his son's suicide in 1995, he joined Solidarité-Deuil d'enfant, became a volunteer at the Centre de prévention du suicide de Québec and in 2001 was named spokesperson for the Semaine provinciale de prévention du suicide.

He also travelled across Québec, spreading the message to young people in particular that suicide is not a liberation for those left behind, and that simple acts may help prevent tragedies. Through his actions, Judge Sheehan has more than likely helped save lives.
