Important notice when the officiant is a mayor, city or borough councillor or municipal representative

When the officiant is a mayor, city or borough councillor or municipal representative, he or she must collect the fee set by municipal by-law from the prospective spouses, on behalf of the municipality. The fee must respect the minimum and maximum amounts set by government regulation.

The fees indicated above are those set by government regulation. They constitute the maximum that can be charged by a municipality for a marriage or civil union solemnized at city hall or another location. A municipality may, however, charge a lower amount.
