The Charter of the French language and its regulations govern the consultation of English language content.

Under the reservation made by Québec, a French translation is required in regards of documents which commence actions. In all other cases, a translation of the “summary of the document to be served” may be sufficient if the recipient consents.

The Central Authority for Québec may, upon a written request, allow service of documents written in English or translated from a foreign language into English if the recipient understands the language.

Nonetheless, a recipient in Québec could object to receiving documents if the recipient does not understand the language in which they are written, or contest the validity of the service if it does not comply with Québec’s reservation.
