Under a reservation made by Québec, a French translation of documents which commence actions is required.
A French translation must also be provided in all cases where the recipient does not understand the language in which the document is written. A translation of the Summary of the document to be served may be sufficient if the recipient consents.
Only a translation done by a member of an official corporation of translators will be accepted.
The Central Authority for Québec may, on request, allow service of documents written in or translated into English if the recipient understands the language.
A recipient in Québec could nonetheless object to receiving documents if the recipient does not understand the language in which they are written, or contest the validity of the service if it does not comply with Québec's reservation.
