The ministère de la Justice du Québec warns the public against fraudulent calls

The ministère de la Justice du Québec has been informed today that several citizens have received automated calls in which a person claiming to work for the Ministère asks them to confirm their Social Insurance Number.

These calls do not emanate from the ministère de la Justice and constitute an attempt at fraud. If you receive such a call, do not send any personal information and hang up immediately.

Under no circumstances does the ministère de la Justice ask citizens, either by automated calls or text messages, to provide personal information.

Rest assured that the personal information held by the Ministère has not been compromised. Police authorities have been contacted about this matter.

If you are the victim of a phishing attempt, you can contact your local police department, the Sûreté du Québec (310-4141) or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Center (1-888-495-8501).

You may also notify the ministère de la Justice (1-866-536-5140, option 4).
