If your application is not checked by the clerk
Once you have completed your application using the interactive form, and if you have decided not to have it checked by the clerk, you must take the following steps to ensure that your file is processed.
First, you must file your application formally at the courthouse. You will need to submit your form online and pay the judicial fees, either online or in one of the ways listed in the "Paying the judicial fees" section below.
You must also, without delay, file the supporting documents for your application, either as originals or copies, at the courthouse where your application is filed. It is recommended that you make copies for your own records.
There are two ways to file an application at the courthouse:
- in person;
- by mail.
Paying the judicial fees
You will have to pay the applicable judicial fees. Unless you pay online when submitting your application, you will have to pay at the courthouse using any method except a personal cheque. If you pay by mail, you will have to provide a certified cheque or a postal order made out to the Minister of Finance.
People receiving last-resort financial assistance are exempted from paying judicial fees. If you are in this situation you must present your claim booklet for the current month or include a photocopy of your claim booklet in your file.
